Living Life to the Full

The recent #alicebucketlist trend on Twitter as part of an incredibly brave teenager with terminal cancer's list of things she wants to do in the time she has left made me think. Abuse can be totally devastating and has the potential to destroy our lives. Having a reminder that life is worth living in spite of it all can be empowering! It can be so easy after all we've been through to slip into depths of depression and hopelessness. It's easy to give up on life. Yes, so much was taken from us, but there is so much more out there than that!

I don't know about you, but the things I've been through make me realise all the more how valuable life is. The years that were taken from me, I can never get back... but that makes me all the more determined to make the most of the rest of my life and take back more than was taken from me!

So... I thought I'd write some kind of 'bucket list' myself. A list of things in my hopes and dreams for the future of my life. Things to live for and things to fight for.

1. Get better! (I've been ill for most of the past year)

2. Get my PhD!

3. Meet as many new people as I can, from all over the world, and learn from them.

7. Do a Post-doc in Israel. (random I know but hey... it's my list!)

8. Own a horse.

9. Learn to speak another language fluently. (or several!)

10. Make a positive difference to other people's lives.

11. See the Northern Lights.

12. Camp in a desert for a week.

13. Attend a masquerade ball.

14. Make a quilt by hand.

15. Take tea with the Queen.

16. Write a book... and get it published.

 17. Name a star.

18.  Own a Beulah dress.

Visit: Beulah London

19. Watch one of Shakespeare's plays in the Globe Theatre.

20. Raise £1000 for Love146.

What would you put on your list? What would you regret not doing with your life? Do you have dreams or ambitions?  You deserve to live life to the full, and to reach for your dreams. Life is what you make it... don't waste it!

  2. Wow...so many things, wonderful! My immediate 'bucket list wish' is simply to get to Boston in July to meet Samuel Bak at Pucker Gallery. Then, I would like to have some peace of mind. If I could achieve that first, I might be able to make a longer 'bucket list'!!! I hope you get to do all of yours!!

  4. What I absolutely love about Alice, is that despite all that is going on for herself, she is telling people to support charities... She's 15, yet has an awareness and empathy beyond her years.

Loving your list... although I thought it was a requirement to go mad when doing your PhD?? :)

As for making a difference in someone's life... I'm a firm believer in the little things sometimes making a huge difference. You never know when smiling at someone is going to help ease their sense of loneliness. So I do think you make a difference in peoples lives, your a caring person and that shines through.

    Take care,
    CG

  5. Oh I totally agree CG! Alice is truly an inspiration on so many levels. It's refreshing to see someone so young have such an amazing attitude and awareness of the needs of others, even in the midst of a horrible situation of her own.

Haha, well I certainly expect to go mad doing my PhD (if I'm not mad already lol)... but hopefully come out the other side not totally insane. :) Perhaps that's asking for a bit much though... I can see my friends going a bit mad already and they haven't finished theirs yet! LOL

Thanks for the encouragement about making a difference in people's lives. I think you're right about the little things making a big difference! I hope I can do that in everything I do, for as long as I live. If I can manage that, I'll be happy.

  6. I love your list so so much!!

    Very inspiring.

Dreaming is a hard thing for me....I need to sit with this for awhile and think what I would like to have on mine (some of your things would definitely make my list)

  7. Hi Tracie! :) I think dreaming is hard for a lot of people... sometimes life makes it difficult. I hope you can dream about some things though. :) Dreaming is a way that helped me survive I think - finding things to fight for... things to keep me going, and things that help me find some kind of hope that says life will get better some day if I keep dreaming and keep fighting.

Someone I once knew, dreamt of climbing Mount Everest. He and his best friend fought to reach that dream and they managed to become the youngest Britons to climb Everest, but there were times they wanted to give up... it was too hard and he didn't think he could make it. They encouraged each other by saying "Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you'll get to where you want to be". That's how I try to see my dreams and ambitions - keep going, keep fighting, keep putting one foot in front of the other. :) It's worth it!

    Good luck with your list!
